Despite years of intensive investment, Microsoft still sees a decline in the turnover of online advertising. The company saw sales from online advertising fall again last quarter, this time by 3 percent.

The loss at the online service division at Microsoft, including search engine Bing and MSN fall in the last quarter to 480 million dollars. Not surprising, given the large investments in Bing, among others. Last year the counter stuck at a loss of $ 321 million.

This division consists largely of online advertising activities. Sales in the quarter amounted to $ 490 million. Last year there was a turnover of 520 million dollars in the same quarter.

This is evident from the quarterly figures from Microsoft.

In spite of this, sales from search in the United States, due to search engine Bing, went up a little. Search ads at Bing showed a mid-single-digit growth in the United States during the past quarter. Exact figures do not release Microsoft about this. The growth will not be too big.

To better confront competitor Google, Yahoo and Microsoft closed a deal. Microsoft was granted the exclusive right to integrate Yahoo search technology into its own search platforms. Bing is the paid search platform for the Yahoo sites for the duration of the deal.

Sales from online advertising fell by 3 percent at Microsoft, still less than the decline at Yahoo of 12 percent.

Total revenue from all divisions declined 14 percent to 12.92 billion dollars. Net profit fell to $ 3.57 billion.
