An unnamed Dutch company has taken over the Dallas-based advertising site Backpage.com. The company of 160 employees will continue to operate from the US.

Backpage.com is a rather Spartan-looking site for small ads that now includes 88 countries. It is the second large advertising site after Craiglist with 7 million advertisements and 37 million visitors. Backpage is best known for his sex ads, which Craiglist divested in 2010.

According to CEO Carl Ferrer, Backpage now has better access to the international market through the acquisition.

Details such as the takeover sum were not disclosed because European regulators would still like to look at it.
