3FM's charity action Serious Request is the first to 'donate via Twitter' and has now raised several thousand euros with it.

An exact amount can not yet be determined, but the Twitter account @ Giro661 is followed by a small thousand people now. All those followers received a personal message immediately after they joined the account. In that message they are led via a link to a donation page for a one-off authorization of 2.50, 5, 7.50 or 10 euros.

The technology behind the twitter donation system is Microincasso.nl and was developed by the mobile specialist CM from Breda.

Director Gilbert Gooijers: "In the first half of the week, Serious Request focuses on creating an image, atmosphere and the accompanying story. Now in the second half that shifts to the money collection. We are now seeing a faster increase in the number of followers on Twitter. "

The donations come in at the Red Cross.

"This is the first time that Twitter is used to raise money. There is also interest from other charities and organizations outside the charitable sector. "
