bol.com is committed to a universal database of well-known sustainability features such as Max Havelaar, Fairtrade NL and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). At bol.com, customers can already filter for a sustainable feature, but the information must still be entered manually.

In the Belgian newspaper De Standaard, director Huub Vermeulen of bol.com calls on the e-commerce sector, producers and suppliers of quality marks to join forces to digitize sustainable quality marks.

Standards are missing. Not all labels already have a database and when that is the case, every organization often has its own approach. Article names are written down differently and article numbers differ.

At the moment, five quality marks are being shown at Bol.com and linked to approximately 3, 000 articles, while according to globe they could be 16, 000.
