Microsoft has made its mobile Office apps for Android and iOS practically free. To edit documents in Word, Excel or Powerpoint, a subscription to Office 365 is no longer required. Well, a Microsoft e-mail address like that of Outlook or Hotmail.

The existing apps have been updated this afternoon, also in the Dutch app stores for iOs and Android. Until recently, these apps could only be used for reading and viewing documents. Those restrictions have been released.

However, full functionality is still only available with an Office subscription. A subscription is also required for integration with business Dropbox and OneDrive accounts.

Starting today, a first (preview) version of Office for Android for tablets is also available.
