The Royal Association of Dutch Wine Merchants (KVNW) has won its case against Wines BV, the company behind the Wijnoutlet site. Wijnoutlet has to make a rectification because of unfair trade practice.

Last summer the Advertising Code Committee (RCC) had already ruled that certain advertisements by Wijnoutlet were misleading and in violation of the Advertising Code for Alcoholic Beverages. For example, Wijnoutlet set the prices of its wines against the prices of the same wines from other suppliers from other harvest years or at restaurant prices.

Furthermore, Wijnoutlet advertised with a medal that had not been achieved and incorrect information was provided about the origin of the wine. 24-hour offers also turned out to be just after the 24 hours expired.

After Wijnoutlet had announced that he would ignore this statement, the KVNW decided to initiate summary proceedings.

The association is satisfied with the verdict. Bonafide wine traders will find unfair competition if certain companies go over the line.
